Lowball and split-pot were developed in the late nineteenth century, while community card poker was a relatively new addition to the poker family.

Most poker variants involve one or more rounds of betting, with some requiring as many as nine. Some variants are based on simple concepts such as discarding cards and drawing new ones to replace them. Others are more complex, with multiple rounds of betting.
